One time setup

This page contains detailed instructions on how to set up various payment types in CRA’s tax payment and filing system. If you have already set up your payment type, you can proceed to pay your taxes using the links at the bottom of this page.

  1. Log into your online banking portal and under the Bill Payments section, click on Tax Payment and Filing, or Pay Business Taxes, or similar
  2. Follow the prompts to Make a Tax Payment and Filing; this will take you to the CRA’s tax payment portal
  3. Upon entering the CRA’s tax payment portal for the first time, you will be prompted to enter some basic information and to agree to terms/conditions.
  4. From here, your selection will vary based on the type of tax payment you need to make.

For corporate taxes:

  1. Click “Add Payment Type”
  2. Choose Federal Tax from the listed payment type categories
  3. From the resultant list, select Federal – Corporation Tax Payments – TXINS
  4. Then click “Next”
  5. Enter your corporate income tax account number
  6. Then click “Next”; then “Done”

For regular monthly/quarterly payroll taxes:

  1. Click “Add Payment Type”
  2. Choose Federal Tax from the listed payment type categories
  3. From the resultant list, select Federal Payroll Deductions – Monthly/Quarterly — EMPTX — (PD7A)
  4. Then click “Next”
  5. Enter your payroll tax account number
  6. Then click “Next”; then “Done”

For GST/HST:

  1. Click “Add Payment Type”
  2. Choose Federal Tax from the listed payment type categories
  3. From the resultant list, select Federal – GST/HST Payment only — GST-P — (GST-P)
  4. Then click “Next”
  5. Enter your GST/HST tax account number
  6. Then click “Next”; then “Done”

Once your one time setup is complete, you can proceed to make the necessary payments using instructions provided in the pages linked below.
