Payroll tax payment instructions

This page contains detailed instructions on how to make your regular monthly/quarterly payroll remittance payments to CRA. Please note that making payroll remittance payments requires a business bank account.

If you do not have a business account, you may make payments towards any type of business tax using the CRA My payment Portal.

The following instructions apply when making a tax payment from a business account:

  1. Log into your online banking portal and under the Bill Payments section, click on Tax Payment and Filing, or Pay Business Taxes, or similar.
  2. Follow the prompts to Make a Tax Payment and Filing; this will take you to the CRA’s tax payment portal.
  3. From the list of Payment types, choose Federal Payroll Deductions – Monthly/Quarterly — EMPTX — (PD7A), and click Pay to make a payment. If you do not see the appropriate payment type listed, you will need to complete the initial setup. Instructions on how to do so can be found here.
  4. Enter required information for your payroll remittance payments (month(s) and amount owing) as stated in the email you received from MMH.
  5. Please note that most banks take one business day to process payments to CRA. Therefore ensure to pay at least one business day before the due date.
